A short while ago, Studio MAPPA dropped the trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 anime. The first season dropped almost 3 years ago, and since then a lot has happened in the manga’s more than 230 chapters.
This next season will cover two of the many arcs in the manga. There are currently 11 arcs in the manga… the anime’s season two will cover the “Gojo Past Arc” and the “Shibuya Incident Arc.” These two arcs lay the groundwork for the rest of the series.
While Season 1 introduces us to the central characters, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 showed us the year 2’s in more detail, season 2 is where the series truly takes shape, these next two arcs will be pivotal in the tone and flow of the story. The new season premiered yesterday, July 6th
Gojo Past Arc
The first story arc to be aired in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 would be “Gojo’s Past Arc.” We will see Gojo as a young student himself, much like how Yuji, Fushigoro, and Kugisaki are now, back in 2006.
Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto are tasked with escorting Lord Tengen’s next vessel to him, also known as the Star Plasma Vessel. This said Star Plasma Vessel goes by the name of Riko Amanai. Riko is a young 14-year-old, teenage high school girl living in Japan.
The two are told to escort her to Lord Tengen, but also allow her to live the last few days of her young life in peace and happiness… before she is turned to Tengen.
Sounds simple? Not quite… there is an organization by the name of “Time Vessel Association” who do not want this to happen. Another group, “The Star Religious Group” pays the infamous Sorcerer Hunter by the name of Toji Zenin to kill Riko Amanai.
Toji hunts down Riko, and Satoru and Suguru are tasked to protect her. This arc follows this backstory premise and was a delight to read. It shows how Gojo became as powerful as he did, and how Geto became the madman we know him as ten years later, with our usual main characters Itadori Yuji, Megumi Fushigoro, and Nobara Kugisaki.
Shibuya Incident Arc
When compared to the previous Arc, “Gojo’s Past Arc,” this arc is very long. It spans 58 chapters (A very large chunk of the total 230 chapters in the manga). In this arc, we get a ton of battles and memorable fights. It occurs on Halloween day, October 31st. Suguru Geto’s plan is finally ready to start.
He places a curtain over the Shibuya train station. Civilians wearing Halloween costumes are held hostage by Geto and his men (namely cursed spirits). This leads to the Jujutsu Sorcerors entering the Shibuya Train Station to try and resolve the situation.
What follows will be mind-boggling events that will give us a central conflict for the rest of the story. Events that will leave the reader in shock… and confusion.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: How Many Episodes?
Season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen was 24 episodes long, spanning quite a few arcs. Many more arcs than Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, which covers two arcs, of which we already mentioned.
Normally, I’d say we’d have around 12 episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 if it were not for the fact that the Shibuya Arc Incident is VERY long. More than 50 chapters. This means the number of chapters covered in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will be roughly the same amount of chapters as covered in Season 1 of the anime.
It can be guessed that there will be approximately 24 episodes. This number is because an anime season’s number of episodes is usually multiples of 12.
There is close to no way that so much material could be fit in 12 episodes, and 36 episodes would be very little.
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 will be released to the public soon enough, no matter what, fans know it will be a banger of a season. Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 will be an amazing watch.
